"Into the Woods" intertwines four of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales into one beguiling crossover story. The Baker and his wife realize their inability to reproduce offspring is caused by a spell cast on their household by their neighbor, the Witch. In order to lift their barren curse, the Witch tells the couple to venture into the woods and acquire the following items from other fairytale characters: "a cow as white as milk" (owned by Jack from "Jack and Beanstalk"), "a cape as red as blood" (which belongs to Little Red Riding Hood), "hair as yellow as corn" (found on Rapunzel's head), and "a slipper as pure as gold" (property of Cinderella in her ballroom attire).
