Neil Malone's widow Anna, who lost him and their daughter Chloe in an accident years ago, returns to town with present lover Charlie to renovate the house she inherited from an aunt. Local shy handyman Billy Moss is hurt when she hints at a gardening company in town to take over and is the first to warn her against the effects of her aunt's 'magical' music box. Soon Anna has reason to doubt her mental sanity, finding herself suddenly in situations that could only occur with years in between, or even contradict the known past or future.
